An Elegant English Afternoon Tea of Downton Abbey Charm

The Kentucky Gateway Museum Center will present “Vintage Inspiration: The Brides of Downton Abbey” at the Maysville Country Club February 14 at 2pm. Wedding folklorist, costume historian and author Cornelia Powell will be the guest of honor for the Valentine’s Day event.
Powell creates a special presentation full of vintage Downton charm, with beautiful costume images and delightful commentary that have entertained audiences around the country. She mixes behind-the-scenes stories from Downton Abbey’s costume designers with tales of tiara legends, being presented at court, and royal brides from Queen Victoria to Princess Diana.
Following the presentation will be an Elegant English Afternoon Tea featuring beautiful vintage settings along with a traditional English tea including scones, savories and sweets.
Powell will also sign copies of her just released book, “The End of the Fairy-Tale Bride: {Volume One} For Better or Worse, How Princess Diana Rescued the Great White Wedding,” as well as her best selling book “The Bride’s Ritual Guide: Look Inside to Find Yourself.”
The award-winning Downton Abbey is set in a fictional Yorkshire country estate, and depicts the lives of the aristocratic Crawley family and their servants in the post-Edwardian era.
There will also be a vintage gift shop for guests. Tickets are $40 for Museum members and $45 for non-members, and can be purchased at the Museum Center. You can save $5 by purchasing your tickets before January 15.
