Harriet Beecher Stowe Museum, also known as the Key home was built around 1807, by Marshall Key.

Marshall Key was a nephew of U.S. Supreme Court Justice John Marshall. Marshall Key was the 3rd County Clerk of Mason Co & retired in 1840.

In 1833 while visiting with the Key family, Harriet Beecher witnessed a slave auction, which according to historic newspaper articles from the late 1800s, it is said that this is where Harriet Beecher got some of the idea’s for her book Uncle Tom’s cabin.
