ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEER

The City of Maysville is seeking an Environmental Engineer to be responsible for providing compliance with environmental standards for the municipal water and wastewater treatment plants.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops, administers and implements environmental programs in accordance with governmental requirements.
  • Perform compliance related reporting per environmental regulatory compliance required by local, state and federal agencies.
  • Maintain a current working knowledge of environmental regulations and laws to provide expertise for assessments, capital projects, work orders, and general environmental related problem solving.
  • Responsible for managing all aspects of the day to day operations and maintenance of a municipal water and wastewater treatment plant, site laboratory, storm water pollution prevention and source control, safety, personnel, internal and external reporting, contract, finance and regulatory compliance among other duties.
  • Interacts with federal, state and local regulators to resolve compliance issues; establishes permit requirements and assists in state and local regulatory audits.
  • Develop cost-effective compliance strategies for existing and emerging regulations that support organization’s needs.
  • Responds (or manages response by subordinate staff) to after-hours plant alarm calls or similar activities.  May work in any and all weather conditions especially during wet season. May need to work extended or off shifts during wet weather events or plant emergencies.
  • Provide environmental technical support in areas of expertise.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Engineering & Technology Management, or related engineering or science field is required.
  • Preferred applicants should hold a Class IV water treatment certification, or the ability to obtain the certification within 2 years of employment, and a Class III wastewater treatment certification.
  • Preferred applicants should have knowledge of engineering design theory and practice, project management, construction and contract management, water resources, water/wastewater facilities and utility operations.  Knowledge of current trends in water quality and treatment and other aspects of the regulated and non-regulated water and wastewater industry.
  • Must possess strong organizational, interpersonal, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Must possess strong written and oral communication skills including proven experience developing compliance strategies and compliance program reporting.
  • Candidate should be energetic, self-motivated and organized.

ASSISTANT UTILITY MANAGER

 Primary Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for managing all aspects of the day to day operations and maintenance of a municipal water and wastewater treatment plant, site laboratory, storm water pollution prevention and source control, capital projects, safety, personnel, internal and external reporting, contract, finance and regulatory compliance among other duties.
  • Develops strategies, short-term and long-term goals and objectives to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the water and wastewater operations; participates in the annual plant budgeting process and prepares standard reports as needed; and participates in project progress meetings to accomplish goals as needed.
  • Responds (or manages response by subordinate staff) to after-hours plant alarm calls or similar activities.  May work in any and all weather conditions especially during wet season. May need to work extended or off shifts during wet weather events or plant emergencies.

Job Skills

  • Ingenuity and initiative are required to coordinate problem resolution, resolve conflicting priorities and to meet assignment deadlines within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose process problems and manage remedial action.
  • Demonstrated effective communication, presentation and interpersonal skills in order to interface with and motivate all levels of personnel.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare accurate, effective, complete, and easily understood written communications, technical documents and reports.
  • Familiarity with maintenance, operation, regulatory reporting and cost estimating software.

Requirements

  • Preferred applicants should hold a Class IV water treatment certification, or the ability to obtain the certification within 2 years of employment, and a Class III wastewater treatment certification.
  • At least five years of experience within a water/wastewater treatment environment with thorough knowledge of the methods, techniques, principles, and practices of water/wastewater treatment, water distribution and wastewater collection.
  • Requires extensive understanding and experience with safety programs and practices.

PUBLIC WORKS SEASONAL LABORER

JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction and supervision of the Public Works Director, or crew leader, perform maintenance tasks to maintain and improve the appearance and quality of the City of Maysville.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Duties include mowing grass; operating a weed eater; planting, trimming and edging shrubbery, trees, grass and flowers; raking leaves; brush removal; chipping and removing trash and debris.
  • Work as a team player with co-workers and in conjunction with other departments

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & TRAINING

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license with the ability to drive a truck and trailer, preferred
  • Ability to lift up to 25-75 lbs frequently

PART-TIME DRIVER

The City of Maysville is currently accepting applications for (1) part-time driver for a Transit Bus. Must hold a current CDL, with passenger or school bus endorsement. Schedule is Sundays and Mondays from 11:30am to 6:30PM. Does not include benefits. Clean driving record is necessary.

The City of Maysville/Maysville Fire Department is accepting applications for part-time Paramedics. Applicants must be certified with KBEMS.

These positions are for EMS only, competitive wages based on experience.
