Miles for Miles Down Syndrome Awareness Run/Walk

October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month, and the goal of the Miles for Miles 5K Run/1-Mile Walk is to promote awareness and inclusion of individuals with DS and to celebrate diversity.

The event is named for Miles Ryan Curtis who was born with Down Syndrome (DS) on December 25,2017 to Kyle and Katie Gallenstein Curtis.

Down Syndrome occurs when an individual has a full or partial extra copy of their 21st chromosome. The condition is the most commonly occurring chromosomal condition. About one in 700 babies born in the U.S. every year has DS. The extra genetic material that individuals with DS possess alters their course of development and, although they experience cognitive delays, with support from family, friends, and the communty, they will lead fulfilling and productive lives.

Proceeds from this first annual Down Syndrome Awareness 5K Run /1 Mile Walk will be donated to Sprinkles of Hope Bakery, Maysville KY, which provides meaningful employment to those with disabilities. lf you’re not up to the run, a nice 1 mile walk is a great way to participate!
