The public basketball courts at the corner of Third and Wall streets are undergoing renovation. Although often used, the basketball courts have gotten little attention in recent years.
Over the past few weeks, the courts have gotten new blacktop and goals, and a new fence has been installed at street level to prevent falls. City workers are currently putting in new sidewalks along Third and Wall streets. The courts will also be striped.
Main Street Director Caroline Reece said that artists from Mason County High School, St. Patrick School, and Maysville High School will paint a mural on the west wall along the courts.
City Manager Matt Wallingford said he is hopeful a community organization will volunteer to do something with the green space beside the courts like playground equipment or a shelter.
